FOR SALE: ’28 Roadster Pick-up

I’ve been working on my dad’s ’29 roadster — which means when its done I’ll have two open cars in the stable; that’s two open cars and no coupes. In spite of the incredible winters we’ve been enjoying, it still makes sense to have a closed car in Northern California. So something has to go….  For family reasons, it can’t be my dad’s. It’s got to be my roadster pick-up.

Original early three-digit Henry Ford AR body and bed, Brookville doors and tailgate

ENGINE: 322 Buick Nailhead rebuilt with Schneider cam, Smith Brothers push rods, custom ported Offy manifold with Jere Jobe-built 94’s and progressive linkage. HEI ignition built into the stock distributor body, spin-on oil filter conversion, NOS Hurst motor mounts.

TRANSMISSION: Rebuilt Ford 4-speed toploader. Offy bellhousing, Mustang clutch and pressure plate, NOS Hurst linkage.

FRONT SUSPENSION: Original Mor-Drop axle, Posies spring with hidden nylon buttons, split ’34 bones, tube shocks with F1 mounts, rebuilt ’40 Ford steering box.

WALKER radiator, Brookville grille shell with original ’32 insert, custom bullnose.

REAR SUSPENSION:’40 style transverse spring, P&J ladder bars, tube shocks. Narrowed and rebuilt Ford 9 inch, 3.50 gears, great gear ratios, enjoyable to drive.

CHASSIS: ’32 rails pinched to match cowl. Custom cross members. Built by Jack Stratton at Roy Brizio’s.

INTERIOR: Restored original ’40 Deluxe wheel, working horn button, vintage S-W gauges and dash insert, Sun “Football” tach converted to digital, chopped windshield with vintage accessory folding stanchions, Ansen swing pedals, ‘38 Ford throttle set-up with ’34 spoon. Seats are leather with NOS seat cover material, panels are a matching vinyl. There’s a battery shut-off and power port in the seat stand.

It was named one of the HAMB/Jalopy Journals’ top ten traditional roadsters at the 2011 Grand National Roadster Show (the only rpu chosen). It’s also been featured in Hop Up (Issue “X”), Street Trucks (7/14 issue) and has appeared in Rod & Custom in their show coverage.

WHEELS & TIRES: Wheels are off a ’40 Ford woodie, powder-coated and pinstriped. Firestone bias ply tires: 700-16’s and 550-16’s. Hubcaps are a combination of original ’40 inner trim rings with adaptors and original ’35 caps.

This isn’t a show car, it’s a hot rod that was built to be driven. There are currently just over 5K miles on the car. It’s very clean, but does have few paint chips and road rash.
